Home Town
My home town is Salem. Salem is also known as The Mango City.
I studied in Holy Cross Matriculation Higher Secondary School from 1974 to 1981.
Before joining the Medical college, I did BSc Chemistry at Salem Arts College.
Salem is a lovely town. I always wanted to settle in salem.
Medical College
I am proud to say that I am a "Stanleyan".
I joined The Government Stanley Medical College in December 1981. Did my house job between 1986 - 1987.
Stanley is a excellent medical school. The Basket ball tournament, Euphoria, open air Cinema, Hostel Day were real fun. Auditorium steps is an unforgetable place.
The ROUNTANA in the men's hostel - an important land mark of STANLEY. Stanley mess - the wednesday and saturday, ghee rice, chicken, cips and lemon juice mmm what a menu!
In one word STANLEY WAS AND IS A GREAT MEDICAL SCHOOL.
Kerala
After my house job I did Senior House Officer job at Jubilee Mission Hospital, Trichur, Kerela.
The surgical experience I acquired at Jubilee is the main reason for my career development.
I am indebted to Dr. H S Adenwalla, Dr Mistry, and Dr Jayachadran.
My friend Dr. Sadiappan was doing Orthopaedics in the same hospital. The time we spent in Jubilee was really great.
Then I moved to Charitas mission hospital, Kottayam. My friends Jagadesan and Kannan were working in the same hospital and were preparing for All India PG Entrance. But for some reason I did not settle well. So I resigned and got back to Stanley Medical College and started preparing for Postgraduate Entrance Exams
JIPMER
I got 209th Rank in the All India Post Gradiate Entrance and secured MS (General Surgery) at Stanley. The course was delayed for 6 months because some students had filed a case in the Supreme Court.
Luckily I got MS ENT at JIPMER, the Only seat alloted for external candidates.
Prof. Majunder was the head of the department. He was an excellent surgeon. I enjoyed organising the VII All India Head and Neck conference in JIPMER, along with Dr.Shah, Dr.Indudaran and Dr.Ravi.
I did enjoy the head and neck surgery, and did quite a lot of surgery, Tonsillectomies, mastoidectomies, SMR, Thyroidectomies, Direct laryngoscopies, etc.
Pondi was great for certain reasons, mainly the mess was excellent. I stayed there for six months, then resigned the MS ENT and Joined MS General Surgery.
MS General Surgery at Stanley
MS (General Surgery) at Stanley was a GOLDEN PERIOD.
The unit was led by Dr. Rathinamuthu. I am proud to have had him as my Chief.
Assistants Dr. Darwin and Dr. Dinnakaran were mostly responsible for the popularity of the unit. Dr.Dinnakaran was my well wisher and a good friend.
MK Shridhar and Venkatesh were my year PGs. We had a wonderful time. Especially the admission day was fun, and full of activity.
I passed my MS Exam with out any difficulty in September 1992.
I came to UK in 1993 June and passed the PLAB Exam in first attempt. At the same time I was selected for Mch.Plastic Surgery at Stanley Medical College. I had a dilema, but decided to stay in UK.
